Essential Tips You Need To Score Cheap Flights

2 October 2016

Longer days, warmer weather, public holidays, school holidays all = awesome times to travel! Only thing is, you’re not alone, and airlines know this! To avoid the inevitable price hikes, follow Youtube travel blogger Hey Nadine’s legit tips to save on flights.

Nadine Sykora is probably the most popular female travel vlogger on Youtube, and with good reason. She’s visited nearly all the continents and presents smart video tips nearly twice a week. Here, Nadine reflects on how to save money on flights while not getting stung by a cheap deals.

NADINE’S TOP TIPS ON HOW TO SAVE ON FLIGHTS

  1. Be flexible – with dates, airlines, airports and even destinations. This is probably the golden rule of saving on flights.
  2. When searching for nearby, cheaper airports –  instead of the one closest to your destination, consider the cost of taking a train, bus or taxi to the place you really want to be. This is especially true in Europe, with so many large cities close by. With tons of airports to choose from, it’s equally important to know how you’re going to travel the rest of the way, cheaply.
  3. Use the best flight comparison websites. Nadine lists Skyscanner, Momondo, Hipmunk, AirfareWatchDog and Kayak in her top 5 sites. Use these to set up an email ‘price alert’, which you ideally want to rig up a few months in advance of your intended trip.
  4. Found a flight you like? Now go direct to the airline’s site to book there – you might even get a better price. Also, booking from the airline direct, instead of a ‘deals website’ means you’re better protected and can tap into the airline’s customer service directly, should you need.
  5. Or, take the best price you can find to a local travel agent and check whether they can beat it?
  6. Sign up to airline email alerts for flash deals.
  7. Research the price difference of booking long-haul flights in parts, or legs. It could work out cheaper.
  8. Avoid flying on the weekends, and at the start and end of major public holidays, or school holidays.
  9. Two interesting tips: delete browser cookies when hunting for flights, and try to book domestic flights domestically (in the country you’re flying in).
  10. Scored a cheap flight? Now watch out for sneaky charges and excess fees. Baggage in particular.
