About you
I’m a 37-year-old woman originally from the wonderful Midwest (Ohio specifically) that has lived around the US and finally settled in Utah to be closest to the mountains. Enjoy adventure sports and a looking to get into rock climbing now that my rotator cuff has healed. I went to uni for a history and archaeology degree so traveling to see all the places I studied about was always big for me. Love road trips and use my visits back to see my family in Washington, DC to explore more of the USA. My family jokes that I’ve seen more of America than truck drivers.
Why do you travel and look for adventures?
It both feeds my soul and releases stress. I love the feeling of being surrounded by an unknown place.
What kind of adventures do you look for when you travel?
Runs the gamut from an adrenaline high to pure relaxation. I want to do and see everything I can about a place
What’s your go-to travel hack?
It’s not a hack as much as advice: last minute is fun and spontaneous but the best deal will always come from planning ahead.
Got any gear you can’t travel without?
For me, it’s always hand lotion (the western US is dry dry dry) and a remote clicker for my camera.
What destination are you eager to go back to?
Ukraine and Romania. Hands down.
How do you stay safe when you’re travelling?
I make sure that I know before I go if there are any parts of a place I wouldn’t want to be out alone after dark and make sure I know where they are. I also make sure I’m well-versed in any scams in a local area, some are harmless but frustrating while others can be dangerous. I don’t share car rides with people I don’t know and I will have them drop me at a restaurant near where I’m going if I’m not staying in a busy hotel.
What’s the best way to experience a destination like a local?
I will ask questions of the bartender in my hotel or nearby when they aren’t busy. Bartenders are naturally friendly people and off-peak times are often when you’d meet other locals when they are more open.
What’s your favourite word in another language?
Fernweh – When you are homesick for somewhere you’ve never been or ache for a distant place.
