In 2020 Jane is challenging the gender gap in a new way – by supporting women who are kicking down the gender divide here, and abroad.
As we approach our 3rd year of being the world’s first travel insurance brand that actively gives back to women, we’re excited to announce a big change in how we challenge the gender gap this year – and how 6 Not For Profits can benefit.
When we launched Travel with Jane on International Women’s Day, March 2017, we announced that our customers would receive a discount on their policies, equal to the national gender pay gap percentage. Back then it was 16.2%. That meant a 16.2% discount on all travel insurance product for customers who identified as women..
Through the years this gender pay gap has – thankfully – nudged down a few points, yet Australian women are far from parity. Using the latest Average Weekly Earnings trend series data released by the ABS, the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) has calculated the national gender pay gap as 13.9% for full-time employees. A difference of $242.90 per week.*
As a company, we couldn’t be more proud of Travel with Jane – our first retail brand and our passion project. IBU still boasts an equal gender split among its workforce, and recently announced the appointment of its first General Manager, Sarah Drysdale.
Through everything we do at IBU and Travel with Jane, gender equality is our north star.
A new way to challenge the gender inequality
So looking ahead, we’re excited to be taking Travel with Jane global, with plans underway to support the travel ambitions of women and their tribes in new markets. To do this, we needed to redefine the way in which we support women so that it makes sense for a global audience.
We’ve decided to bring our gender pay gap discount to a close this month and instead embark on a partnership with not for profits who are active in the space of gender equality.
We’ll be offering 10% of all sales to our cause partners – who will be on rotation bi-monthly. As for our customers, by joining our email list, they will be privy to frequent flash sales, providing them with decent discounts, in addition to the 10% we donate on their behalves.
We’ll also be offering our existing customers a life-long access to the 14% discount, accessed through a discount code.
Know a not-for-profit or NGO who’s kicking down the gender divide? Tell us who we should support!
Today, we are seeking 6 gender equality based not for profit organisations, to donate 10% of sales to, during 6 bi-monthly cause partnerships.
The NFPs will be active in promoting gender equality spanning all areas of impact including: wages, education and legal representation.
